Gherman Titov and his wife Tamara visit a San Francisco Safeway as part of their tour of America in 1962. I posted a few of these last year, it’s one of my favourites. I’m just curious as to the thought process behind this stop. The local Safeway?

I recall seeing somewhere that when Cosmonauts came to America, they would always ask to see places this ‘mundane’, solely because something fo this nature was not possible in the Soviet Union. The idea of a Supermarket where one could get as much or as little food as they wanted flabbergasted them, as did ‘fast food’.

Who knows.
